Church Reopening Update

Re-Opening Message, 5/26/2021

Beginning Sunday, May 30, Saint John’s will re-open for in-person worship. Service is at 10:00 am. Zoom service will continue to be offered for those who are more comfortable attending online. Please read below for more detail.

The levels of Coronavirus have decreased significantly with the introduction of vaccines. Per the CDC, vaccinated people are very unlikely to be infected, and if they do, it is generally mild. It also looks like some recent studies suggest the vaccinated people are very unlikely to spread the virus. Mask recommendations have changed. The ECMN and the Bishop have updated recommendations for parishes.

The recommendation is that during all in-person Indoor services, all persons should continue to mask, regardless of vaccination status, to protect children less than 12 and adults whose immune status may make the vaccine less reliable. The recommendation is that parishes consider different numbers than previously to decide if they can go to In Person Indoor Worship. The recommendation is that the number of cases per 100,000 be less than 25. We have reached that level and the levels continue to decrease in the 3 counties that include parts of St. Cloud.

Therefore, we will be doing in person Worship this Sunday, as approved by the Junior Warden, along with Zoom for those who are not comfortable with in person worship. It is likely we will be able to stay in person as long as we do not get another surge and as vaccinations cover more people. The requirements continue for distancing.

The pews with blue tapes are marked off for distancing, so people should not sit there. People should try to find some empty pews without tape, close to the number in their household. Ushers or others may be able to help. Communion will be bread only. Per ECMN, no indoor singing, although closed mouth humming under masks may be reasonable. Please see the recommendations on the ECMN website if you would like more details or talk with Susan Atamian or Tom Roy or another vestry person or Covid Ad Hoc Committee member. We would be happy to send you the printed ECMN recommendations if you don’t have email or a printer and would like to see them. Just let us know. If we cannot fit all the people that come to the service, distanced overflow with Zoom may be available in the Parish Hall. (We are working on it). We may be instituting a reservation system, but that is not yet set up.

ECMN recommends we continue with our Contact Tracing system. Persons who are regular members and are listed in our telephone directory won’t need to write in their contact number.
